About the Department
The Department of physiology was started in the year 1988 for teaching BDS students. We started with 40 students and black board teaching; now we have advanced to flipped classes and iPad teaching. Throughout we have maintained high standard which is reflected in the pass percentage which has now reached 98%.
The department of Physiology has an excellent infrastructure and experienced faculty to aid teaching and research activities. Physiology is taught to wide range of UG & PG students. The faculties use various teaching methodologies which are of immense benefits for the students. The faculties are also successfully involved in diverse research projects and have published many papers in well reputed scopus indexed and Thomson reuters journals.
Curriculum:
We follow DCI syllabus but we also teach extra topics like basic cell biology, genetics to improve student's knowledge. We have extensive MCQ Bank of 1600 questions. We conduct more than the stipulated practical classes to improve students' understanding.
According to the University policy, the students get iBooks, assessment after each classes, regular module exams, comprehensive revision classes with model exams at the end.
Learning Methods
Saveetha Dental College, follows an unique methodology in teaching named ‘Multiple Interactive Learning Algorithm ( MILA )’. MILA focusses on teaching and Learning process in small groups which is very effective. MILA comprises of 20mins of lecture session followed by 20 mins of activity based learning. This method of teaching greatly enhances student attentiveness, improves grasping, simplifies concepts and provides an active learning environment and helps student to understand the concept in a much better simplest way. The different activities include JIGSAW, Role play, Peer led team based learning, POGIL, Critical pedagogy, Concept Mapping etc..
