About the Department

Department of Physiology is one of the basic medical science departments in Saveetha Dental College. This department focusses on educating the dental student and other health care students about the functions of each system of a human body and how they coordinate to maintain good health.

The Department of Physiology has excellent infrastructure and faculties with wide experience and knowledge in different fields of Physiology thus providing quality teaching, research in innovative and emerging fields. The faculties are trained both in teaching (Medical Education) and research (PhD scholars) which helps to nurture skills in the students.

Three faculties have been awarded PhD and also serve as Ph.D guides for pursuing  full time and part time PhD in Medical Physiology

The department is well equipped with Pulmonary Function unit with a computerized digital RMS HELIOS 702 a PC-based Spirometer with a High resolution Color TFT Display for promoting research in respiratory physiology. This instrument measures the lung volumes and capacities in a single breath technique. The department performs various research activities with the students for various publications in lung physiology.

The Department of Physiology also holds an RMS Vesta 301i for conducting various research in Autonomic Function tests, heart rate variability etc. Electrocardiograph is a 3 channel ECG machine with12 lead simultaneous acquisition and Colored TFT for Real time ECG monitoring. This machine comes along with measurement and interpretation, 12 lead simultaneous acquisition, Graphical Colored TFT up to 3.5 inch for Real time ECG monitoring, Paper out Indication with 100 patients memory storage. The faculty and student perform various research in ECG variations and Heart rate variability and publish papers in national and international peer reviewed research articles.

The Department had conducted various International and National Conferences, CME s and webinars every year to update the students in the research knowledge and collaborate them with various scientists of different disciplines and fields of interest. The department has published about research papers in peer reviewed national and international journals. The department also extends student participation in various out-reach research programs to enrich their knowledge students.

The Maroon7 Lab was developed under the Department of Physiology at the Saveetha Dental College and Hospitals. Experiments on microbial genomics, marine polymers, genomics, proteome analysis, nanomaterial design for drug delivery, and electrochemical sensors of drug molecules will be carried out with high-end equipment such as a photocatalytic reactor, a hydrothermal reactor, and other high-end pieces of laboratory equipment.
